Banned from Democratic Underground
Evidently free speech in this country spreads far and wide in this country, but stops at the doorstep of the Democratic party. Much as the John Cotton left the comforts of New England to preach to the Algonquins I bravely ventured into a Democratic stronghold with a message of love, forgiveness, and supply side economics only to be rebuffed by the force of liberal facism seeking to silence conservative thought.
I have appealed to the moderators for reinstatement and asked to know what policy I broke. Perhaps merely being a Republican was enough to threaten them. I certainly was more civil to posters there than they are to each other with the Hillary vs. Obama attacks. I also resent how I encourage their posters to read my blog and many do visit, yet I am banned from their forum. For shame. With Obama preaching change and with Hillary reaching out to Republicans this forum chooses to practice the time tested politics of hate and exclusion. For shame.
Like Republicans aren’t notoriously for banning like-minded individuals from posting in their forums? It is a two-way street. DU is well within their right to prohibit anyone from posting there as they see fit – just as you are here.

RF–I never have claimed that DU has no right to ban me only that their attempt to censor me tramples all over first amendment rights when I have followed the TOS of their forum and remained far more civil than many of their posters. The only thing I may have done that was slightly divisive was to agree with Hillary Clinton on one post. I hope that I will receive a satisfactory response to my email to the moderators, but I did want to let my loyal readers know what had happenned.

Democraticunderground.com is a brainwashing site. Worse that MSM. 24hrs a day the monitor what is posted and remove items that doesn’t steer people in their beliefs. Another site like this is surfingtheapocalypse.com I am still looking for a site that doesn’t. Anyone have any ideas?

I too got banned from DU yesterday. I’ve been a staunch active liberal for over 45 years now. After posting a centrist-left opinion, I was baraged with over 144 hateful moronic personal insults. I finally defended myself, within the bounds of civilized debate, and BOOM — the thread is locked and I’m kicked off as a “troll”!
As for another site — I think I’ve found one: try http://www.policsforum.org.
They specifically do not permit nonsubstantive one-liners or insults (which lately constitute about 90% of the posts at DU). I haven’t posted there yet, just been reading, but it looks to be active, interesting, substantive and civilized.

Uh oh — my post of Nov. 9 was premature — I just received an email from “skinner” (owner of Democratic Underground) reinstating my privileges, complete with explanation and apology! Wow!
So it seems that when one is banned from DU by an overzealous moderator, skinner does read and evaluate appeals. Email skinner directly at skinner@democraticunderground.com.

I didn’t last a day on DU. I am not addicted to either the Dem or Rep party and call things as I see them. All I did was to reply to a guy calling GWB a fascist. I said that GWB did things that could be considered fascist (like Patriot Act) and Obama wanting to Nationalize so many things is also a form of fascism. That if the person looks up fascism, they would find it doesn’t have one meaning and there are various types.
I am very PO’d and understand how to file actions. I am tempted because I lurk on a lot of sites and have never been banned. There were a lot of people swearing about republicans but I guess that is OK.

I am pondering if their LLC veil has been pierced once they discriminate or show malice toward a group. If they do not apply TOS to all people posting I would feel that they have violated rights. I get really ticked off at those that promote liberal views but in reality are very closed minded.

It was a Libertarian site but you got views from all sides. Some were radical views some were not radical but nobody ever got banned.
As I suspected DU acts like a child…when someone disagrees they take their toys and run home.

It works both ways, but who they ban and who they let back in and others who post worse things about the same topics, and including profanity at the same time – and not get banned.
And they are hypocrites.
Others are right, re: the personal insults.
The place has gone downhill over the last couple of years, big-time. So much so that, after asking to have my account closed (effectively self-banning), I finally went to other means. I probably could have just left, with people then asking “Where did he go” (which isn’t fair to them), or make a big “I’m leaving and am taking my pony with me, waaaah” like how others do, but that’s fair to nobody… so I resorted to more… innovative means. As if it matters, they couldn’t handle real conversation if it bent over backwards for them, so I have few regrets.)

People over there do that all the time.
There are better sites to visit. Even if you were reinstated; are they worth the time? Their mods do put out personal vendettas against those they don’t like. I’ve observed it happen to others and, a few years ago, received a PM from someone telling me to be on the lookout because there was a moderator who didn’t care for me. In short, they’re about as mature as… wait, the child comparison was already said…

Not to mention, they usually give out warnings long before banning. One’s post count has to be either under 100 for them to preemptively ban people as ‘trolls’, or the post one makes has to be really juicy to get them going. (regardless of post count or ability to engender proper debate which, again, is a long-lost concept on that site.)

I also was banned from democratic underground. And I am a democrat.
The moderators will not respond to my messages and will not point out where I broke any rules. I have screenshots of all my posts and not one of them breaks forum rules.
Apparently if you dont praise obama for the great job he is doing with healthcare and afganistan, you are not welcome there.
I thought free speech was encouraged there.
I was wrong.
Just alot of obama cheerleaders.
I am going to keep my screenshots of all my posts in case I can find a way to distibute them to anyone doing a story on how the moderators there are banning people who have broke no rules and are in fact DEMOCRATS.
I asked them to please let me know what post I did that broke a rule, and they simply dont answer. ITs because they know that I broke no rules and was courteous to everyone I talked with there.
They simply dont like someone pointing out that president obama has broken many promises and is selling us out on healthcare with mandates and taxes on health premiums.
It was either that or the fact that I once said that I do not believe in Gay marriage.
And that we should have civil unions that provide all benefits/legal rights for gay people. But it should be called civil unions and not marriage.
If this is why they banned me, then they might want to realize that this is the same opinion of PRESIDENT OBAMA. The democratic president in which they support.
I am very unhappy that Democratic underground has turned out to be run by corrupt moderators.

i got banned on Friday i can descried my self as a more in the middle learning to the right,then i what to sign in i got a message saying my posting rights have been revoked,i not sure why i got banned it may be probably because what i said about obama,that he was trying to shove health care down Americans throats and they did not take like of that,it no joke man if you don’t kiss they ass 100% they treat you as some kind of dog,i surely won’t miss DU anytime soon screw them and they fascism idealistic leaders in Washington NO MORE TAXES GRAAAAA
We read all correspondence sent to us. If you do not get a response to your appeal, it is because your request was denied.

I too was banned from undemoocratic underground recently – without warning, and they never did respond to my requests (3) as to what rules I supposedly violated. I agree that the site lets certain people violate the rules, especially about name calling. If you disagree with the pets you are a troll. Apparently you are not allowed to go on that site and try to have an educated, articulate debate regarding the health care bill (corporate giveaways), climate change (Al Gore & his Goldman Sachs buddies are setting themselves up to make billion$) or the questionable ties between MoveOn and Soros. And yes, I am a card carrying Democrat that does not like the DLC takeover of my party. Has anyone dug into David Allen and who actually funds his DU site?

I’ve been doing some research on David Allen and DU. I found out that he is a graduate of Yale (as in Skull & Bones Yale). He also supposedly has a previous history and ties to the DLC.

Just got banned from DU and did a search on censorship and found you guys.
DU is a joke. All they do is spout off against repubs, etc, post one liners patting each other on the back and then ban anyone who posts anything objectionable. Yet the cursey and flame each other and of course, do not get banned.
I made all of 3 posts (just signed up today) and banned in less than an hour. Come on. I don’t even identify with a political power. Its all about the issues.

DU is now an arm of the DLC. There is a cast of about 30 posters (paid viral bloggers, IMO) on there whose job it is to harass, bait, and threadjack any poster who makes a legitimate criticism of the Obama admin, or the DLC.
If you go to oldelmtree.com, you’ll find tons of posters who were purged from DU either in the LGBT purge of ’09, or for daring to criticize Obama in some other capacity.
It’s not just DU either–these Obama-bots are all over Kos, Huffpo, and other sites doing the same thing. Their job is to purge all the liberals, then redefine corporate DLC policies as the New Democratic Party.

I am a progressive and I was banned from DU after 7 years, presumably for criticizing The Great One (Obama). The administrator of DU is apparently so convinced his site is invincible that he can just offload people at will without consequence – but more and more people are getting fed up and filling the Internet with complaints and bad press.
If this keeps up a few more years, DU will be in serious trouble. The cash cow will die and the administrator will have to find another flock to fleece.
