Obama vs McCain on Gas Policy
Have you heard about Obama’s solution to the energy crisis? He says that if we’d all properly inflate our tires that we’d save just as much as the ammount of oil we’d gain by offshore drilling. ROFLMAO. I love it!! This man is a leader for our times.
Let’s see, offshore drilling according to an analysis performed by the Energy Information Administration, an independent statistical and analytical agency within the U.S. Department of Energy, found in a report published in 2007 that opening up the outer continental shelf in the Pacific, Atlantic and eastern gulf regions wouldn’t do much now, but in 2030 if we also drilled in ANWR we would eventually drop gas as much as 3 or 4 cents a gallon in today’s money.
“Because oil prices are determined on the international market, however, any impact on average wellhead prices is expected to be insignificant,” the report concludes, but I don’t find 3 to 4 cents insignificant at all. That’s nearly $100 for me over the course of a year.
Properly inflated tires show an immediate impact on gas prices and people supposedly can save up to 10% of their fuel costs by properly inflating their tires. However, that assumes we all don’t have properly inflated tires to begin with. In the end it seems to me that at best Obama has a wash with his tire inflating strategy.
