Christopher Columbus Would Have Voted McCain
One of the top 3 heroes in American history never gets the attention he deserves because he never lived in America. However, it was Christopher Columbus who discovered America in the first place despite everybody telling him that the world was flat. There’s only one word for that type of behavior and that is Mavericky. Columbus was one of the first great mavericks who followed his own sound judgement regardless of what others thought. Even though America was 13 British colonies in Columbus’s lifetime it was those 13 colonies that have made us the greatest force for good the world has ever known.
When you look at the qualities that made Columbus a great man, you reallized just how much he has in common with John McCain:
- The willingness to sail around the world when others told him to take the easy way out.
- The diplomatic ability to meet savages from strange cultures
- The ability to manage a crew with a calm hand on the tiller
Today was Christopher Columbus’s day. Let’s hope that the first Tuesday in November is John McCain’s day.
Nate, buddy, I love you like a brother, but history is the one thing you don’t know everything about everything about. Fortunately, I do. We were not 13 colonies until 1732. Even if Columbus sailed the ocean blue at the age of 2, he’d be 242 years old in 1732. So, I really don’t think there were 13 colonies in his lifetime. Roberta McCain might live that long, but Chris Columbus, no. Look at Eva Peron orRoberto Clemente or Pele, Spanish people die young.

Oh good catch. I didn’t reallize Columbus didn’t get to see what he had started grow into the full 13 colonies. I guess in some ways he was Moses for the new world.

Columbus claimed to have discovered an inhabited country. Native Americans are humans too you know…McCain claims to still be a Maverick even though Karl Rove killed the maverick in him back in 2000…yeah, i see the similarity: both have delusions of grandeur

Steve, you may know everything about history, but maybe geography is not your forte. Are you talking about our Pelé from Brazil? If so, he’s still alive, and he’s not exactly Spanish.

He may be alive, but of course he’s Spanish. He’s from Spanish America. That’s what we call Florida, Texas, and everything south of that.

Hmm… Steve, this may come as a shock to you, but Brazil is actually not part of Spanish America. We were colonized by the Portuguese, in fact. You know, when Spain and Portugal split goods, Portugal got the best part (us). But God only became Brazilian when we became independent from Portugal. When Pelé was born, God was already Brazilian. That’s why we’ve won five Soccer World Cups so far, while the US… how many have you won?

Columbus’s “diplomacy” consisted of forcing the natives into slave labor and killing them off by thousands to steal their gold. The vikings were the first Europeans in North America, and Columbus ended up in the Caribbean. Of course he would’ve voted McCain: they share the same intolerance for beliefs other than their own.
