Torture? Give Me a Break
I am getting really irritated by the nay-sayers and liberals of this country whining over the so-called torture that we have supposedly inflicted in the war on terror. Now I’m not naive enough to believe that everybody we tortured was a terrorist. In retrospect giving a bounty in Afghanistan for every terrorist turned in was bound to lead to troubles. All those people look like terrorists and I’m sure some innocent sheep farmers or what have you got mixed in, but in the grand scheme of things is that really so bad?
I honestly believe that the information that we got from terrorist suspects was extremely useful. I do not believe that our successful invasion of Iraq would ever have been possible without the information that we were able to torture out of suspected terrorists. I guess though that my main complaint is the use of the word torture. My gosh, I went to public school. This stuff was nothing.
One complaint that the liberal media have had is the 1000 calorie diet that terror suspects were subjected to. I don’t that sounds unreasonable at all. When my daughter Emily stays with me I also try to limit her to 1000 calories per day. She’s 125 pounds and only 13 years old. Frankly, she’s a bit of a porker. If you’ve ever seen khalid sheikh mohammed, I think we were doing him a favor. Talk about a pig. Water boarding is equally overrated. I experienced basically the same thing when I was a child and my mom used to wash my hair in the bathtub. Sure, I thought I was going to drown, but I left the tub with a clean head and a lustrous shine.
Anybody who has seen 24 knows that torture can work. The fact that we have not been subject to any terrorist attacks since this torture began indicates to me that the torture has worked. I am sure that there have been plenty of near misses that were prevented at the last moment by judicious use of torture. I know that torture isn’t pretty, but I think like Peggy Noonan says the best course is to cover our ears and just ignore it. I love fast food, but I don’t want to know how its made. I love liberty, but likewise I don’t want to look to closely to see them making it either.
[...] not understand this. People like That’s Right Nate, who believe that television shows such as 24 provide genuine, accurate examples of how torture works. Anyone looking to macho fiction for exemplary material and drawing analogies between waterboarding [...]

Did you see the Fox news thing with Shepard Smith? He doesn’t like the idea that we torture. Says we can’t be Ronald Reagan’s Shining City on the Hill if we do. Of course, selling arms to Iran and funding death squads…that’s right in line with Shining City stuff, I guess.

I think the trick is in how you look at it. I’m a waterboard is half full kind of guy. I guess some liberals look at it as half empty.

Jeez, ol’ Shepard (who names their kid after an agrarian occupation? “Hi, this is our daughter, Swineherda”) reallygot fired up didn’t he? Nice to know somebody at Fox doesn’t always believe that ends justify means. Even if his initials are ‘SS’.

I am shocked and appalled. Fox used to have fair and balanced news before Smith drove it hard left.
