How to Make an American Salad
The 4th of July is very important to me. On July 4, 1776 General George Washington crossed the Delaware River to surprise the British at a party in Trenton, New Jersey and won our independence from Britain. We also changed the world forever by becoming the first Democracy where people could vote for their leaders. This call of freedom sounded all over the world and many other countries like Iraq, Sweden, and even England have since abandoned their monarchies for Democracies.
What’s sad is that in recent years secularists have tried to take the Christ out of July 4th celebrations. They want to pretend that American is not a Christian country and that our systems of laws and government weren’t patterned after the Bible or that the American Eagle wasn’t chosen as our country’s symbol because by hatching from an egg it was a symbol of the new life we are called to with Jesus. They would like us to forget that the red on the American flag stands for the blood Jesus shed for all mankind. They would like to forget that the words “E Pluribus Unum” (In God We Trust) is on all our money. Do not let them take Jesus out of the 4th of July. When you see a fireworks display be impressed, but remember those fireworks represent us looking to God for guidance and providence.
As fun little exercise I have witten a recipe for an American salad. I think if you read it, you may just find that this recipe has a deeper meaning:
How to Make an American Salad
1. Take 1 pound of British colonists, a half-pound of French colonists, and a half-pound of Indians. Place in a melting pot until the flavors are thoroughly mixed together. At this point remove the Indians. Simmering too long will cause them to get bitter.
2. In a separate melting pot whisk together 4 ounces of family values, A half-cup of Christianity, A cup of freedom, A quarter-cup of liberty, and 17 Constitutional amendments chopped finely.
3. Drizzle liquids over mixture in melting pot.
4. Add immigrants from other countries, but make sure none get in the pot without you putting them there.
5. Top with manifest destiny, individualism, perseverance, and conservatism to taste.
This delicious recipe was first made on July 4, 1776 and should serve 300 million.
Happy 4th of July!!
Teabagging and Wieners
[I am once again giving this blog space over to Congressman Jack Kimble (R-CA) so that he can tell you about his exciting 4th of July plans--Nate]
Hello cyberspace! In April, we made history. Hundreds of Americans from all walks of life came together to teabag in the parks of this country and let our voices be heard. I was inspired to see the teabag movement grow larger and larger. We sure got a rise out of a lot of people all the way to Washington. Still, many people claimed that we didn’t have the staying power to keep it up. They thought that we would be one and done. That’s why I’m pleased to announce that there is going to be a second wave of teabagging on July 4th. Teabagging is about the spirit that got our founding father’s through Valley Forge and many difficult nights on the front lines. Let’s show the Obama administration that we will not bend regardless of the polls.
One thing I noticed about our last teabagging event is that many of the crowd seemed to be older and male. There’s nothing wrong with that, but this time we’d like to get more women and children participating. That’s why after the teabagging we will be having wieners for everybody. There is nothing that says 4th of July like having a bbq and I’m promising all the wieners you can handle for the whole family. I learned several years ago from David Vitter that the secret to a good BBQ is a good rub and while some chefs just throw their wieners on the grill I make sure to give mine a very special rub first to seal in the flavor and make it oh so juicy. There is nothing like one of my wieners on a fresh bun.
So if you’re in the district come on out to Monserat Park for teabagging at noon with wieners to follow from 4PM until nightfall. Hopefully, we’ll have a good view of the fireworks at the country club from the park. This will be a great opportunity for more teabagging and who doesn’t love wieners? This is our chance to protest and teabag so they feel it all the way to Washington. Whatever you do on the 4th, I wish you and your family the best. This country has come a long way since it won it’s independence from England on July 4, 1776 and it is time we return to the values of our four fathers.
Nate Peele’s America
Today is the 4th of July and to me that’s a time of reflection. As I look at this wonderful country around me I see an America as strong and as free as it has ever been. I see a defiant country that loves peace enough to fight for it over and over and over again. I see Americans with the courage to not allow hard times to change their lifestyle, Americans whose parents fought hard for what they have and who aren’t about to give it up as long as they have fight in their heart and room on their credit card. I see an America where anybody with God given intelligence, hard work, and the money for a college education can rise to middle management in a multi-national corporation and I see an America where the small businessman can thrive by the sweat of his employee’s brows.
I see a President who refuses to join the internation community in ganging up on China, but instead will proudly show up for the Openning Ceremonies in Beijing and lead the chants of U-S-A, U-S-A. I see congressmen like Larry Craig and David Vitter willing to take a stand to protect the institution of marriage. I see the American Family Association taking a stand against McDonalds for supporting the gay agenda by refusing to condemn Vice President of Communications Richard Ellis’s decision to serve on the Board of Directors of the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce. I see a country that can look at six straight months of job losses and not be disuaded from supporting the party in charge for another 4 years.
America continues to be that shining city on the hill that other coutries aspire to be. We remain true to the vision that those patriots established back in 1776 when they wrote the Constitution and proclaimed proudly that “we hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal”. We remain true to the values of our greatest generation who fought the Nazis on Normany and Iwo Jima and we look forward to a future of world dominance. The light of liberty will not be extinguished and will last for 1000 more years. As it says on our very currency “E pluribus unum” which of course means in God we trust. Have a wonderful 4th of July!!
