Obama’s State of the Union Speech

with one comment

I am happy to continue my long history of live blogging with Obama’s State of the Union speech.

7:52 Biden has a purple tie and Pelosi is dressed in purple—the color of royalty.   Wow!  Will the American people stand for King Obama?

7:57 Do the Judges really need to wear their robes? It’s like look at me, I’m a Supreme Court Justice la de da.

8:00 Michelle Obama is sitting next to a 4 foot tall police woman.

8:06 If we want to cut the budget do we really need 2 guys to introduce the President? Couldn’t one guy say the whole phrase?

8:13 Victory very much in doubt–not a real rousing open.  He forgot the Titanic and the Hindenberg.

8:18 Nice job by Biden on the clap fake.

8:19 Nice shout out to Bush on the bank bailout

8:28 Well if the new trains are in China, it makes sense for the Chinese to own them. Why doesn’t he get this stuff?

8:33 Boehner and Cantor eye rolling strategy key to Republican victory

8:42 Yay!  More standardized tests.  We will have the best bubble fillers in the history of filling in bubbles – take that China

8:56 Freeze spending at 1980 levels. Reagan was our greatest President and those levels were good enough for him.

9:02  You know who’d like this speech?  Bobby Jindahl

9:19  Notice Obama doesn’t mention names–he’s making up these people. I bet the money isn’t even the kid’s allowance.

9:21 Sorry for the delay in tweeting.  I dozed off.

9:30 Great we have the State of Virginia speech now

9:30 Twins freak me out

9:32 For those who say the GOP isn’t inclusive, I say to you we have an African-American on camera

9:35  An oil platform in every pool and an SUV in every garage.

9:38 The Christmas day bomber should be in Gitmo, not sent to a US court like the shoe bomber was.  In fact, let’s send all criminals to Gitmo.

9:40 I’d agree the government closest to the people governs best if I didn’t live in Chicago (Daley), Illinois (Blagojevich, Ryan)

Live Blogging of Obama Afghanistan Speech

leave a comment »

7:02 Catchy theme song, but I like Hail to the Chief

7:05  I’m glad that Bush was able to put an end to that acting as one thing

7:06 I hate how Obama says Taliban. It sounds like he’s Harry Belafonte counting bananas

7:07 Wow! When did West Point start admitting women?

7:10 Why is Obama having so much trouble with Afghanistan? Bush was doing so well that he was able to start a second war

7:11 @Greytdog on Twitter suggested that he should have Hail to the Chief when he enters and the NCIS theme when he leaves.  I like that idea.

7:14  If the threat is this serious, we should have color codes for it.

7:20 Pakistan is pretty much Afghanistan with a good cricket team…oh yeah and nuclear missiles.

7:26 If the wars cost a trillion dollars then why weren’t they in the budget?  Liberals are such spend thrifts.

7:29 He just said we have to be nimble? He is channeling Belafonte. Barack be nimble, Barack be quick, Barack go under the limbo stick

7:31 All we’re asking for is a little gratitude.

7:36 Well it was quick enough, I’ll say that.

Live Blogging of Obama Healthcare Presser

with 2 comments

7:02- Why does he keep blaming the economy on Bush?

7:04 – Businesses wouldn’t be paying more for health care if they were frugal like me and just didn’t give benefits.

7:05 – We’re supposed to believe that there are 14,000 Americans who lose their health care every single day, get it back, and lose it the next day?

7:06 – This is an economic incentive to move. If Barack Obama or Clarence Thomas’s parents had this, would they have moved a lot as kids?

7:09 – “We will break you.” Ivan Drago, Rocky IV

7:11 – Now that he owns all these car companies, he can’t refrain from trying to seel them.

7:15 – Why do we have to change to expect a different result?  Why can’t reality change?

7:22 – Obama seems either more confident or more aggravated tonight and I can’t figure out which.

7:23 – My insurance doesn’t cover busses

7:25 -  If they want to encourage more doctors in rural communities, put Northern Exposure reruns on PBS

7:29 – Sacrifice?  What is this sacrifice you’re talking about?  Bush never asked us to sacrifice

7:30 – Just because something doesn’t work, doesn’t mean we shouldn’t pay for it. Thanks for killing the F-22 Mr. President

7:31 – Take the blue pill!!!!

7:35 – I’d love to have the blowdryer concession in Washington DC

7:39 – The Chicago Tribune is still putting out a paper?  How cool is that?

7:43 – Why does Obama want more regulation?   I’m sure the banks have learned their lesson.

7:47 – Stephen Koff? Is that a real name? Come to think of it, is that a real mustache?

7:51 – Aha! I called it.  Stephen Koff was an impostor.

7:54 – When a highly respected college professor like Dr. Gates turns to a life of crime, I think it says a lot about the problems with hip hop culture.

Live Blogging of Obama Press Conference

obama10017:02 – Fox is airing Lie to Me Instead.   Nobody gets Irony like Fox

7:03 – Did Obama really just tell those lazy goldbrick employees of mine to stay home when they’re sick?

7:04 – I’m sorry, but building an economy on maxed out credit cards is the American way.

7:06 – Yeah we get it.  You can pronounce nuclear correctly.  Big deal.

7:07 – Rewarding drive and innovation sounds like Obama code for socialism

7:11 – Obama is actually taking credit for having drugs on the Mexican border.  That’s like taking credit for having ice in Alaska

7:15 – Two word solution to Detroit’s problems — Monster Trucks!!

7:18 – OMG! Obama just admitted he wanted our cities to be bombed to smithereens

7:23 – It occurs to me we could combine the waterboarding with hand washing and protect ourselves from both terrorism and swine flu

7:25 – As far as I’m concerned Obama is just the opening act. I’m setting my DVR for the minute Governor Jindahl comes on screen for his response.

7:26 – Why is he asking Obama if we could secure Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal? This sounds like something to ask Tom Clancy

7:29 – CBS wins for best hair

7:30 – With the Democrats controlling the Presidency, they’re already able to ride roughshod over the Executive Branch. Where is the balance there?

7:37 – How can Notre Dame have a speaker who agree with the Warren (graduation speaker 1957) court on abortion? Except for Condi anyway.

7:38 – Did I miss something or did Facebook send a reporter to this thing?

7:43 – Yes President Obama if you could be a tree, an animal, a super hero, and a member of the Beatles? Which would you be? As a followup if you forward your answers to 10 friends in the next 10 minutes you will have an important policy initiative pass this week.

7:54 – We should drop Chryslers on al-qaeda and kill two birds with one stone

7:58 – “Rising up to the challenge of our rivals.  And the last known surivivor stalks his prey in the night  And his fortune must always be Eye of the Tiger,” Survivor.

8:00 – What the heck?  Where’s Bobby Jindahl?

Live Blogging of Obama Press Conference

leave a comment »

Once again, I am live blogging an Obama Press Conference. I know that I can’t count on the mainstream media to ask the tough questions so it looks like it is up to me to hold his feet to the fire.

7:02 – The first thing Obama does is to deny his responsibility for HIS economic crisis.  How surprising.

7:06 – The Road is Long….He’s Not Heavy, He’s Obama – I need to record this.

7:08 – Excellent first question.  If the banks won’t tell us how they’re spending their money and not spending it the way we want, should we really try to regulate them?   Awesome question for a chick.

7:10 – Chuck Todd has an excellent point.  All Obama wants to do is raise our taxes and then not ask for any sacrifices from us.   Maybe we could all cut our standard of living or something.

7:14 – So we’re just supposed to take Obama’s word that Americans are making sacrifices?  None of the network news anchors are seeing any sacrifices and neither am I.  Don’t just ask the poor folk.  Reach out to the upper class.

7:15 – Who is Jake Tapper?  I think I had a fake ID that said Jake Tapper when I was in college.  Jake…Jake Tapper by day he’s a private eye, by night he’s a lady’s man.

7:19 – Chip Reid – do you have to have a cool name to be a reporter?

7:19 – Jim Cramer can probably tell you what the economy will be like 10 years from now.  The man is a genius.

7:24 – I find it very hard to believe that the budget deficit is the result of health care and not AIG bonuses and pork projects to study volcanoes.

7:26 – We need to keep Mexico’s problems in Mexico.  Those gangs there are horrible and they ship their drugs to this country.  Not only that, they buy guns at gun shows in this country to wage their wars depriving American gun collectors, the chance to buy those firearms.

7:29 – The Stars and Stripes reporter is a mumbler in an out of date suit, I bet Chip and Jake give him the business.

7:32 – Following up on Chip and Jake.  Ed Henry is such a wannabe.

7:35 – Why wasn’t he publicly outraged before he knew what he was talking about.  Trust your feelings Barrack.

7:38 – The Australian government’s stimulus plan consists of putting another shrimp on the barbie.

7:39 – By the way Major Garrett can join the cool name reporter club.

7:41 – I wouldn’t give money to charity, but if I did I certainly wouldn’t do it if I had to donate at 28% instead of 39%.  Let the middle class write off 28%.

7:44 – Hello?  If these children are homeless how are they supposed to be watching this press conference?

7:46 – Straight outa Compton comes a question about race.  Michael Steele would have a field day with this.

7:51 – Obama has been blinded by science.  Bush never touched the stuff.

7:54 – Obama loves bragging about his parties

7:58 – I love the way that Fox News can put the whole speech in to simple terms.

Well that’s it.  I pretty much agree with the analysists on Fox News’ panel.  He wasn’t fooling anybody.

Last Presidential Debate Live Blog

with 5 comments

I am really going to miss these debates.  Other than suing state attorney generals to prevent voter fraud, the debates are my favorite part of the election season.  I have my Mountain Dew and my doughnuts and I’m ready to blog.  I hope you’ll join me in just about a half hour for live blogging of the debate.

7:54 – Looking at the undecideds on CNN I have to wonder, if you are still undecided are you really reliably intelligent enough to operate a dial?

8:00 – This is going to be McCain in his element with his back against the rope and everybody counting him out. If I had to rename him it’d be Rocky Maverick.

8:02 – Oh sitting down. This is good for McCain. I think Bob just put down the other two moderators.

8:03 – One thing about old people is they always know who is in the hospital with what ailment. McCain has used this strategy twice successfully now. He forgot Cheney now.

8:04 – I sadly agree with Obama here. If the working poor could just access their investments, things would work a lot better.

8:08 – Joe Worksaburger? If McCain made that name up they’ll know.

8:11 – Now he’s Joe the Plumber. I like this guy. I’d like to get a beer with him.

8:12 – The last Presidential election where plumbers were this important was 1972 when Nixon’s plumbers broke into DNC headquarters.

8:17 – The first rule of surgery is use the hatchet and then use the scalpel.

8:19 – I have to agree with McCain on not funding the Planetarium in Chicago. What does Astronomy and space have to do with the jobs of tomorrow? That’s 1950s stuff from when we were chasing Sputnik.

8:20 – It is amazing when you look at impartial conservative watchdog organizations, they all seem to impartially prefer McCain.

8:23 – Its amazing that the Democrats can’t stand Obama either

8:24 – McCain brought climate change to the floor of the senate by insisting if people were cold they should wear a sweater.

8:26 – If Obama had agreed to do town halls the people at the McCain rallies wouldn’t be yelling kill him, they’d be too busy scoring the debates. Now he deserves all the deceptive ads he gets.

8:28 – Obama is just so negative.

8:31 – Joe the Plumber is back. I bet he knows Larry the Cable Guy. Now that guy is funny.

8:33 – Anytime you have a rally with 15,000 or 20,000 people you’re going to have some nutjobs. I think this explains a lot about what went wrong at Nuremberg.

8:36 – Wow ACORN may be capable of destroying the fabric of Democracy–COBRA, HYDRA, and CONTROL failed, but ACORN may succeed.

8:39 – Obama has to come clean about whose living rooms he’s been in and when he was in them.

8:40 – McCain is going to bring Mavericky people in the government.  Isn’t it obvious?

8:42 – Palin is a bresh of freath air.

8:43 – Palin understands special needs kids. That’s why she cut the funding for Special Olympics in Alaska–those people don’t need sports. It isn’t like they’re going to make the NBA.

8:45 – Wow if Biden had his way, Iraq wouldn’t be a very good place to live, would it?

8:49 – Obama won’t say what he’ll do in 4 years. Who cares about 10? I want to stop importing oil for my Jeep Cherokee now.

8:49 – Shoot, I think McCain just dozed off. That doesn’t look presidential.

8:51 – McCain is sharp. You’ve got to watch Obama carefully.

8:52 – I think the reason that a lot of Colombia’s exports to the US aren’t taxed is because they’re illegal.

8:53 – McCain wants Obama to travel a lot.

8:56 – Can’t McCain make points against Obama without trashing Herbert Hoover? If there’s anything that will make him lose my support, that’s it.

8:57 – It shows you how far America has come that Obama and McCain are allowed to be in the same pool.

8:59 – McCain is right. Let’s give the rest of this country the same high quality medical care that the veterans have. Joe the Plumber would like that.

9:02 – Whose fault is it these uninsured people got old and unhealthy? Obama needs to worry about the rest of us.

9:04 – Joe is rich now!! Awesome!!

9:04 – I’m sick of fat cats getting all these plastic surgeries and transplants just because they can.

9:07 – I like McCain’s stance on judges. Don’t nominate judges based on their philosophy, but by their qualifications which include being smart enough to agree with your philosophy.

9:12 – I wish I knew morse code. I think McCain has a message for me.

9:16 – Our education is poor because we have lazy teachers. Duh.

9:18 – I’m still crushed that Emily seems to be supporting Obama.

9:19 – We should bring the New Orleans educational miracle to the rest of the country.

9:20 – McCain has a great point here. If somebody’s been in the military there is no reason for them to take a competency test to become a teacher.

9:22 – Charter schools are the answer. There’s no reason at all you can’t get just as good a teacher for less money and no job protection. Who wouldn’t want to be in lecturing 30 7th graders on the proper use of commas in inner city Newark?

9:24 – I wish Sarah Palin was there tonight. She’s very mavericky.

9:26 – Boom! McCain just laid the smackdown on Obama.

9:31 – Obama got killed! I liked how heartfelt McCain was in talking to Obama at the end.

Thanks for tuning into more live debate coverage. So far in our debate its 3-0 that McCain is kicking his butt. Let’s hear your opinion. Where did McCain win it tonight?

Live Blogging of Presidential Debate #2

with 3 comments

I’m excited to see if the Republicans can make it three blowout wins in three debates.  My Matt Druge hat is on, my doughnuts are ready, and my Mountain Dew is chilled.  John McCain is the to Town Halls what Otis was to town drunks.  This is going to be good.

8:01 – Here we go.  Let’s see who wins the important shaking of the hands.  Palin killed with “Can I call you Joe?”

8:02 – McCain makes  a brave choice by looking at Obama.  I like it.

8:03 – Why the economy questions?  What the typical American cares about is Obama’s relationship with William Ayers.  Sure Obama talks about facts fine, but what about character. If he’s not secretly a Muslim he should come out and say it now.

8:06 Obama keeps talking about the middle class.  What about the rest of us?

8:06 Wow! McCain addressed Alan by name.  He’s much more sincere.

8:07 Wow the economy is terrible and the fundamentals were so strong a couple weeks ago.

8:08 McCain should appoint his economic adviser Phil Gramm as Secretary of the Treasury.

8:10 Obama just advocated giving a tax cut to people who aren’t spending enough time with their kids.  Those people shouldn’t get a tax cut.  What about their poor families.

8:11 McCain knows his stuff when he talks about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

8:18 “Both parties got us into the crisis?”  I don’t see how you blame the Republicans for this.

8:21 Good old Joe Lieberman.  Since he’s an independent, its actually tripartisanship.

8:22 Obama voted for every increase in spending?  I thought he voted against the troop funding? Obama is even worse than I thought.

8:23 Both candidates seem to be using the “answer the actual question” strategy which Sarah Palin avoided last week.

8:24 Brokaw is such a liberal hack.  Where does he give off giving McCain a list of 3 things to keep track of.

8:25 “Less benefits! More nuclear power plants!”  That would make a great McCain bumper sticker.

8:28 Like George Bush we should all give up golf for our troops.  I hope McCain isn’t talking about cutting the earmark to study bear DNA that he voted for.

8:32 One way I save energy is by using disposable plates and cups instead of running my dishwasher.

8:34  Wow for $18,000,000,000 we could really reallize my dream of a self storage Hall of Fame.

8:35  A scalpel is much more elite than a hatchet.

8:35  At least McCain knows Obama wants to raise taxes even if Obama doesn’t know he wants to.

8:37  Wow! Doubling the exemption for each kid. I bet that was Sarah Palin’s idea.

8:39  A quarter million dollars a year?  What about the rest of us Barack?

8:41 McCain says fixing social security isn’t tough.  I give him points for that.  If McCain can get a job like President in his 70s and 80s, why can’t the rest of us become Walmart greeters?

8:42 Thank you John McCain.  I think your best days are ahead of you too.

8:44 What about rocket packs?  I want a rocket pack!

8:46  If McCain voted 23 times against alternative fuels, I guarantee it was the Mavericky thing to do.

8:48  If we can add 1% more oil in 10 years we will be building a bridge to rocket packs!

8:50 Obama is talking about the health care crisis.  What ever happenned to rub some dirt on it and walk it off?

8:53 I agree with McCain.  We need to get health care records on the internets, but shouldn’t rely on the government to do it.  We should be able to type it in ourselves.

8:54 I cross state lines to by fireworks from Krazy Karl’s roadside shack.  Why not do the same with healthcare?

8:58  Why hasn’t Biden done anything about the banking rules in Delaware?

8:59  As McCain says only send troops where its worth it.  Places like Iraq, Afghanistan, North Korea, Iran, Syria, Pakistan, Russia, and Spain.

9:04  Great!  Brokaw wants an Obama Doctrine and a McCain Doctrine.  Hasn’t poor Sarah been through enough?

9:06 McCain knows a stranger is just a friend you haven’t met.

9:07  If there’s one thing McCain has, its a calm hand on the tiller.

9:12  Wow!  McCain just called Osama bin Laden a freedom fighter!  I think if he’s elected he may bring us peace with al-qaeda the way that Reagan brought us peace with the Soviets.

9:16  If the Brits want us to put an acceptable dictator into Afghanistan, what about making Dick Cheney governor?

9:18  Somehow McCain needs to get POW into this debate.

9:20  It is interesting that McCain had no trouble looking into Putin’s eyes, but was so hesitant to look into Obama’s.

9:21  Brokaw reminded McCain to get in the POW thing.

9:21  One thing for sure, if we do restart the cold war, Spain won’t be in NATO.

9:23  Why did they stick all the white guys in one section?

9:25  So many men, so little hair.   I think the studio audience thought this was a  hair loss cure infomercial.

9:27  The problem with a League of Democracies is that somebody has to be the Cubs.

9:33  Thank goodness we had the extra 3 minutes so McCain could get POW in.

Well with the debate over I have to say that McCain creamed him.  I can’t see how else you can look at it.  McCain should stick with the calm hand on the tiller approach.

Live Blog of Presidential Debate #1

with 4 comments

Its one half-hour before the McCain-Obama debate and I’m down 2 litters of Mountain Dew and 3 doughnuts already.  I wanted to get the tags up and a picture posted so the I can just keep hitting save when I find something worth blogging.  This is an experiment so please comment if you’re reading this so I’ll know if its worth doing for future debates.  You know it occurs to me that it wasn’t too long ago some other people were asking John McCain questions–those people were the Vietcong.

8:01 – Jim Lehrer is speaking now.  This is going to be good.  Nin minute segments.  I should score this like a boxing match.

8:02 – Obama tried talking to McCain.  He was having none of it.  How fitting Obama came in from the left and McCain from the right.

8:05 – Oversight seems to be Obama’s answer to everything.  I like McCain’s deregulation plan.

8:06 – Who cares about the middle class Barack?  What about the rest of us?

8:08 – Obama won’t commit to his opinion on the plan just because he hasn’t seen it.  I bet McCain won’t be such a chicken.  Ha!  I knew it.

8:10 – Wow!  I think McCain is blaming Ike for the crisis.

8:12 – The candidates are having a hard time with this format.  They don’t like talking to each other and would rather talk to the monitor.

8:14 – McCain’s belief in the goodness of America trumps Obama’s so called policies.

8:15 – DNA of bears in Montana?  You might as well just study crabs mating or seal DNA in Alaska or something.

8:17 – $18,000,000 in earmarks!!!  Sheesh!  What a waste.  We could finance almost 2% of the Wall Street bailouts this year with that money.

8:20 – McCain doesn’t need a flag pin.  He wears it on his heart.

8:21 – McCain offers $5,000 for healthcare?  How could one person possibly spend that much? Its worthy paying payroll taxes on your employer funded health insurance.

8:24 – China has a space walk.  They’re only 40 years behind us.  Let’s see how fast they get to casette tapes.

8:29 – I love how the Democrats always nominate the candidate with the most liberal candidate.  It is such an amazing coincidence.

8:33 – Yes!! McCain finally is onboard with taking care of our veterans!!

8:34 – Shouldn’t we be encouraging countries like Iraq to build nuclear reactors so that they cut the world demand for oil?

8:36 – I would like the decision of what to be done with my $5,000 in medical spending to be made by myself, my doctor, and my HMO.

8:38 – Obama just said orgy.  Why wasn’t this beeped out by the censors?

8:38 – McCain wasn’t voted Ms. Congeniality?  Was Sarah Palin?

8:39 – Dammit I had a bet McCain would say POW before surge.

8:40 – Like John McCain, I’m glad that we managed to free Iraq from Iranian influence.

8:41 – Question for Obama, “Afghanistan?  Are we still fighting that old thing?”

8:44 – Obama says “not my committee.”  McCain can run this thing without a congress.  He’ll pass the legislation himself if he has to.

8:45 – The difference between a tactic, a strategy, and a strategery

8:49 – Why are Obama and the Iraqis so determined to get American troops out of Iraq?

8:49 – The other difference between Petraeus and Bin Laden–The Pakistanis aren’t defending Petraeus.

8:52 – As McCain points out, one of the trademarks of US foreign policy has been a hands off approach to the middle east.

8:53 – “Pakistan – The Country McCain Doesn’t Want to Go to War With”

8:55 – We don’t need more troops in Afghanistan.  What we need is 6 younger versions of John McCain armed with 6 pistols and 6 bowie knives.

8:58 – McCain just slammed Reagan.  He’s not making me want to support him this way.

9:00 – McCain and Obama are sporting some bling.

9:02 – McCain is a sucker for travel.  I remember this from the early 80s when he discovered that was the best way to get to the bottom of the savings and loan scandal was travelling to the Bahamas to meet with Charles Keating.

9:04 – If we form a League of Democracies, I get the feeling that Canada will be the League’s Aquaman.  I mean talking to fish just isn’t that impressive when you have Superman and Green Lantern.

9:05 – Nice! McCain got the Iran training thing right without Lieberman!!  That’s huge!

9:06 – Why is it always the Republican Guard?  What about the Democrat Guard?

9:06 – What Obama fails to reallize when discussing Iran and Iraq is that there is a thin line between love and hate.

9:08 – Raul Castro is kind of the Curly Joe of Dictators.

9:09 – Boy did the right nail Reagan for meeting with the Russians.

9:12 – Stand up to Spain McCain!

9:13 – The average South Korean is 3 inches taller than the average North Korean?  No wonder they don’t play exhibition basketball games.  I bet the North Koreans would be good jockeys though.

9:16 – Wow! McCain got angry

9:19 -  Yep, McCain loves to travel!

9:21 – Maybe Georgia shouldn’t have tried to settle their conflicts with Russia by using their military.  We did warn them.

9:25 – That makes sense.  If offshore drilling is a bridge, I can see why you’d put Sarah Palin in charge of your energy policy.

9:25 – Obama doesn’t object to nuclear waste?  McCain is killing him in this debate.

9:26 – Like Charlie Black, one of McCain’s advisers said, if there is another 9/11 attack you know it would help McCain.

9:29 – CNN’s graphics are confusing too me.  Think think that the audience is very supportive of terrorists getting nuclear weapons.

9:31 – McCain poses an interesting question.  Would Iran allow al-qaeda to build a base in Iraq if we left?

9:34 – Oh geez, its getting late. I think McCain is falling asleep.  Let’s call it for tonight.  The poor guy is 73.  Could we have the next one a little earlier?

9:35 – It is hard to hear McCain over his tie.

9:36 – This is a major upset!  He barely got POW in.  It was a full 57 minutes after surge.

Conclusion–It was closer than I thought especially when McCain started dozing off, but I have to give it to McCain solidly.  He was brilliant and Obama faltered all over the place.  I think this debate will win the Presidency for McCain.
