2009 Natie Awards Announced for Journalism

leave a comment »

The journalism Natie is the crown jewel of the Natie awards.   To be nominated, an article must seamlessly combine fact, analysis, and opinion to let the reader know not only what is happening in the world, but also to let them know what they should think about it.   This is the most difficult category to narrow down the nominations for and this year was especially difficult.   Last year’s winner Now Obama Has His Own Flag – I Bet the Colors Run set the bar very high, but I believe all 6 of this year’s nominees surpassed it in some way.  The nominees are:

  1. Obama Endangers Rural Illinois (www.thatsrightnate.com)
  2. A Patriot’s Guide to Disrupting Town Halls (www.thatsrightnate.com)
  3. Obama’s Surgeon General is Just Too Fat (www.thatsrightnate.com)
  4. Did Obama Murder Stimulus Critic Mark Sanford (www.thatsrightnate.com)
  5. Report Attacking Conservatives is the Real Terrorism (www.thatsrightnate.com)
  6. Obama Recites Presidential Oath on Koran (www.thatsrightnate.com)

In a very close vote, Obama Recites Presidential Oath on Koran is the winner!!

Wow, I feel very honored to have personally captured 3 Naties so far this year and to have all 4 of the winners be from my site.  The NATIE nominations remain a great place to find a half dozen of the most important and most influential blog postings in the past year.

Our Blog’s Newest Award

with 6 comments

As you know, winning the Natie in 2008 was a great moment indeed for this blog.  This year, award season has started early as we have been honored by Zenyeta with the prestigious…Actually I don’t know what its called, but we one it.   Unfortunately, like most awards there are strings attached.  I have no doubt, that I will soon be hit up for money for some foundation or scholarship fund that I’ll be expected to contribute to as an award winner.  As an award winner, I am tasked with selecting other blogs for the committee.  Those nominees are below:

Drinking Liberally in New Milford

Scootmandubious

Rotten Little Girls

Just an Earthbound Misfit

Equa Yona

Finally, I am supposed to write 10 honest things about myself:

1. I often have trouble expressing myself clearly because other people don’t share my enormous intellect.

2. Sometimes, I think I love too much

3. I believe that I am the greatest hope for the Republican party taking the White House in 2012

4. I believe that Obama’s iron fisted fascism is more frightening than his Pollyanna world view.

5. I rooted for the asteroid in Armageddon and never understood why it wouldn’t have been easier to teach astronauts to drill rather than teach drillers to be astronauts.

6. I taught myself English at a very young age by listening to my parents and I get really irritated when others are too lazy to do so.

7. I once considered voting for a Democrat to impress a girl.  Then I realized I could just tell her I did.

8. My bed is shaped like a rocket ship.

9. I love movie montages where characters try on clothes

10. I know 14 ways to disable an attacker with my barehands, a coat hanger, and a can of bug spray.

The Naties

with 4 comments

As the end of the year approaches, everybody wants to celebrate excellence. Whether it is Man of the Year contests or Top 10 Movie Lists, it seems that everybody is celebrating excellence in one thing or another.  I intend to do the same thing, except I will be celebrating excellence in me.  The Naties (pronounced Nate-tease) are a recognition of what makes this blog so truly special.  It will serve to highlight old articles and celebrate the truly great from the merely great. The technical Natie awards were given earlier today in a separate ceremony.

The first Natie is going to be the Investigative Natie.  To be eligible for this award, the article in question must be original content from me.  It can either be a report of something I am doing or an investigative piece with an actual interview.  The nominees are:

  1. Is McCain Poised for an Illinois Upset?
  2. The Obama Ad that the Networks Won’t Play
  3. We Have a Book Deal
  4. Tom the Bartender on Politics
  5. A Tale of Two Employees
  6. Obama Hates Puppies

This year’s Natie goes to The Obama Ad that the Networks Won’t Play for its gripping look at the attempts of the mainstream media to supress any voice that is critical of Barrack Obama.
