Sharron Angle and the Quest for a GOP Congress

with 2 comments

Sharron Angle is running hard for Harry Reid’s spot as Senator from Nevada and Senate Majority Leader.   She’s excited the Nevada tea party and though she’s a fresh face on the national, she’s been known to Nevada residents for sometime.   She’s ahead in the polls and has been able to comfortably concentrate her campaign commercials on showing what kind of guns she can fire instead of policy issues.

She’s been a big advocate for religious rights ever since she pushed to get a Scientology program into Nevada women’s prisons in 2003.  In fact, Angle has argued that the separation of church and state imposed on this country in the first amendment is unconstitutional.

In the case of abortion, it is her faith that guides Ms. Angle.  Saying “God has a plan”, Angle is against abortion in case of rape and incest because she believes that God would not have had the woman in question raped if he did not have a plan for her and her baby.   The plan may be grand like the baby growing up to be President or it may be small like the shame of the mom being a lesson to other loose women to control their alcohol intake, dress more modestly, and not go into strange bars without a male escort.  I think it’s very reassuring for all rape victims to know that even if it was scary, God planned their rape and was guiding the actions of the rapist all along.

Angle is also ready to make big noise on the economy by forcing the lazy to get back to work.   Angle favors cutting unemployment benefits so that goldbrickers are forced to go back to work and take the many entree level jobs that they turn their noses up at.   Much of the current unemployment is caused by the desire of so many people to start in middle management or higher.  There’s an attitude sweeping the country that if you’re not going to get a key to the executive washroom, you might as well just live off your dividends and put off applying for work.

With a woman of faith and intelligence like this, the GOP is well on their way to taking over Harry Reid’s Senate seat and Majority Leadership.

Senator Ensign’s Affair is Understandable

[I was very lucky to receive an email today from Congressman Jack Kimble (R-CA) who wished to write a guest column in my blog about the situation with Nevada Senator John Ensign.   I was happy to oblige.  If you haven't been paying attention, today Ensign admitted to an affair with one of his staff.   Her husband also worked for Ensign and when he tried to blackmail him, Ensign went public with the affair.]

John Ensign has been a giant of the Senate.   He has always stood for family values and conservative principles.  When Clinton put this country through the shame of Monica-gate, Ensign was one of the loudest voices for impeachment calling it “an embarrassing moment for the country” and stating the Clinton had no credibility left.  In more recent years he came out forcefully against gay marriage saying, “I believe that marriage should be defined as that between one man and one woman. You want to do what is ideal for children and all of the studies show that the ideal for children is to be in a household with a father and a mother.”

In short, John is exactly the kind of guy that we want in the Senate.  He’s a family man and he obviously has a strong sense of morals.  Unfortunately, the pressures that a congressman faces are huge.  It begins when we’re freshmen, you see all these attractive young women who want jobs as staffers and they’re on you the moment you step off the plane–tossing you their keys or underwear and asking you if you have a place to stay or giving you a ride to the capitol.   Let’s face it, in Washington DC we are the rock stars.

Then there are the parties.   I remember after drinking hard all night at Dennis Hastert’s,  they locked myself and Judy Biggert in a closet for 10 minutes.   Judy and I managed to keep our clothes on, but we still made sure to give them a good show when they finally opened the door.  That kind of stuff was happening all the time.  I still remember when Paul Ryan showed John and I the Double Kissinger–Wow!  My wife Margaret wouldn’t even let me do that in our bedroom.

Anyway, if we’re the rock stars in Washington DC, as a representative I’m like one of the Temptations.  As a senator John Ensign is like Huey Lewis.   If you stay in Washington long enough its going to make it tough to avoid temptation.    I hope the American people realize that the way to judge a congressman’s morals is through his speeches and the positions he takes on the issues and not what he does in his private life.   John you’re a good buddy and I know you’ll pull through this OK.

Republicans Crap Out in Nevada Convention

with 3 comments

Maybe it was the bright lights that drew them in.  Maybe it was the fact that so many of them were in Las Vegas trying to make their living at the black jack table, but for whatever reason 1,300 Ron Paul supporters totally disrupted the Republican Convention in Nevada.

The Paul supporters managed to get a rule change put through to give them more representation to the party’s national convention in St. Paul Minnesota not far from the 1979 Minnesota UFO sighting and within driving distance of the Hormel headquarters in Austin, Minnesota makers of many great non-perishables for use in bunkers and air raid shelters.

The one piece of good news is that the Supreme Court recently upheld voted identification requirements which will prevent most Ron Paul supporters from voting in the national election for fear of being “on the grid”.
